Microsoft has pitched Windows 10 as the “Windows you know, only better.” The brand had a hard time with Windows 8 and 8.1, both being slammed for various reasons by critics, developers and users alike. In fact, Windows 8 was among the least popular version of Windows. Windows 10 was launched in 2015, and while it was initially available as a free upgrade for Windows 7, 8 and 8.1, but now you would need a key for updating and activation. Most Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 users should be able to upgrade without any issues. You can get the key online, and all you have to do is sign up with Microsoft with your email for verification and authenticity. If you are using Windows 8.1 pro and 7 Pro, you will have to do a fresh installation, but you can upgrade between the two versions of Windows 10 without new installation.
